God Has A Name

How often do people refer to God as the man upstairs? It's a little impersonal don't you think? After all God is more than just a being who resides in the sky. This reference is just a way of protecting yourself from the onslaught of persecution or an uncomfortable feeling you might get from people. There are so many people today who are out of sync with their Creator because it's not politically correct or because it offends people who don't believe.
Some have written God off as a non-entity or an ogre who hates human beings.
Agnostics don't really care and atheists make it very clear that they want nothing to do with God because He doesn't exist. Others are just too busy with life. They put God in a box and only bring Him out on a special holiday. Some just don't want any supernatural being to cramp their style or impose on them rules and regulations that will interfere with the life they want to live. The lines are drawn, the battle is on and so when it comes to addressing God in today's world people carefully use a generic name so people won't get offended or feel uncomfortable. I've used this euphemism before and when I look back I see the shame of it. I recall the passage in the bible where Jesus says-
Luke 9:26. "For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed when he comes in his glory and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels".
In all honesty there are many more beautiful ways we could address God and not be so impersonal. So, the next time you get into this situation, take time to acknowledge your Creator who is the Master of the Universe. you might want to over indulge people with who you are in love with and what He really means to you. He's more than just the big guy in the sky, He is the one who gave you life, twice.
